DEMENTIA SUPPORT CENTRE PROGRAM

About
For the past few years, we’ve been running an activity program with our neighbours at Cedar House, which is a day respite centre operated by Dementia Australia.

Our innovative program is based on bringing two generations together for engaging activities.

How it works is that our kindergarten children go in to visit the older people at Cedar House for a planned session. These sessions might involve singalongs, storytime, or art and craft projects. One noteworthy undertaking has been to produce a piece of art together, for a Dementia Australia public art show supported by the Gold Coast City Council.

In developing this program, cross-generational connections and relationships are being built, emphasising the importance of empathy and connecting with others.
